With the school year coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about summer plans! We’re sure you’re probably planning vacations, time with friends, and lazy days by the pool—but have you thought about summer dance programs?

Dancing through the summer is a great way to keep your technique fresh for the upcoming fall season and explore new and exciting styles you’ve never tried before. Many studios offer camps, workshops, and intensives to keep you dancing during the off-months. If you’re not already planning to do so, here are a few reasons why summer dance classes are so important:

  • Stay Conditioned Through the Summer- Taking summer classes helps to keep you moving during the off-season. You spend countless hours during the school year working on strength and flexibility; and if you don’t use it, you lose it. Taking time off from dance for the summer months can potentially result in injuries when you come back in the fall. Instead of starting over again, keep your body moving and stretching all summer long.
  • Explore New Dance Styles- Many studios change their schedule for the summer and offer a variety of workshops and classes for you to explore. Take your time off to explore styles you wouldn’t typically take during the school year. Your new favorite dance style might be waiting for you on the summer schedule!
  • Gain Confidence in Your Technique- One of the (many) benefits of summer dance classes is the opportunity to focus on sharpening your skills and dance technique for the upcoming season. For example, if you’re a ballerina by trade and want to brush up on your hip hop skills for company auditions—summer is the perfect time to focus on the areas that you want to strengthen for the fall.
  • Meet New Friends- The summer brings in lots of new faces to the studio. Taking dance classes and workshops in the summer months encourages new friendships and creates special memories that will last a life time!
